Tappey & Steel, which became Tappey, Steel & Delaney Co. when joined by Alexander Delaney (1831-1910) in 1887, manufactured portable steam engines, agricultural presses, sawmills, grist mills, mill irons, jet pumps, Wolfe's turbine water wheels, and bark mills, according to an 1883 advertisement. The works were on W. Washington St., near Union St. The other partners were William H. Tappey (1819-1890) and Alexander Steel (1829-1888). Alexander Delaney had previously been superintendent of Tredegar Iron Works and been an employee and partner of Metropolitan Iron Works, both in Richmond, VA.
Tappey has an alternate spelling of Tappy.
