This is the patent for the first permanent-magnet chuck. The patent number was seen on an "Eclipse" Type M146 magnetic chuck made by James Neill & Co., a firm that made hacksaw blades for the first quarter century of their existence but then started making magnetos during World War I. The company is now the Eclipse Magnetics division of Spear & Jackson. This patent, or at least the US version of it (US patent 2,053,177) was licensed by Brown & Sharpe Mfg. Co., who made mag chucks for the North American market. |
