Companion was a brand name for less expensive tools and machines from Sears, Roebuck & Co. The Companion name was replaced by Dunlap on 1941 model machines (starting in late 1940). It was used on hand tools—wrenches and the like—after this time.

Makers of Companion woodworking machines include Walker-Turner Co., Inc. and Central Specialty (later a division of King-Seeley Corp.). See the Craftsman entry for more history and a list of manufacturers codes.

In the late 1990s or early 2000s, after the quality of Sears machinery had entered a decline, the Companion name was resurrected for use on some low-end Asian import woodworking machines. This website does not attempt to cover Asian-made machines and we have no more information on them.
