UNIVERSAL RADIAL DRILL.
The accompanying illustration represents a new and improved radial drill which is being introduced to the trade by the Lodge & Davis Machine Tool Company, Cincinnati, O.
The column is of the round type, and revolves on an inside stump of unusual length to insure easy movement. The power is derived direct from the countershaft by means of a pair of bevel gears arranged so the arm can make a. complete circle. One of these bevel gears is made of raw hide, thus obviating the noise, unavoidable by the meshing of two metal gears. The drill spindle is balanced by strong coil spring wound in the back of the rack wheel. The feed is accomplished by a rack and pinion and can be disengaged instantly by a novel quick return. The different changes of feed are obtained by the well-known pin gearing device, and can be varied while the drill is running. The swinging arm is raised and lowered by power. The head is moved on the arm by a spiral gear and rack not obstructing the spindle in its angular setting. This company also manufacture plain and half-universal radials of the same design. |
