Greenwood's New Roller Feed, Heading and Surface Planer. The substantial-looking machine shown herewith is the Greenwood latest heavy type of Roller Feed Planer, which was designed for present-day use on hardwood slack barrel heading with high capacity and long life. "This planer," says Mr. Teal, of the Rochester Barrel Machine Works, "is 400 lbs. heavier than our old style and is a new machine though out, every part having been increased in size and strength, such as gears, slides, bearing, etc. It is made in two sizes, 20 and 24 inches." There are three corrugated feed rollers and one smooth pressure roller. Bearings are 5 inches long and 1 7-16 inches diameter. The roller boxes are Babbited before being machined, hence duplicates can be furnished Babbited ready to slip into place. These boxes are held down by adjustable enclosed" steel springs. The cylinder is a solid steel forging with ¾” knife screws and bearings 1 15/16" diam., 10"long, running in self-oiling dust-proof boxes. The table is supported on wide slides and is adjusted by hand wheel operating through bevel gears and screws. Gears are all of wide face and coarse pitch, cast from accurately cut metal patterns, and will give long service. The feed mechanism is driven by a clutch pulley and can be instantly stopped by a slight movement of the lever. Duplicates of nearly every part, completely machined, roller boxes Babbited, etc., can be furnished and guaranteed to fit. Countershaft has self-oiling boxes that can be removed without disturbing pulleys or hangers. Shipping weight with countershaft, 2,000 lbs.
