We illustrate herewith a machine which is designed for accurate and rapid boring, for furniture, table leaf work and agricultural implements, etc.
The frame is composed entirely of iron, and on top of this, back of the work table, the spindle frames arc mounted in such a way that the two outer ones can be adjusted to or from the center one, to make the distance between holes anything desired from 4" up. The spindles are adjusted independently, and each is driven by au independent belt. The table is raised for adjustment by means of the screws and bevel gears seen in front of the machine, and the table carrying the work is fed forward to the bits by the treadle, the movement of which is adjustable to suit the work to be done.
The work is clamped at three places simultaneously, all the screws being moved together by means of the crank at the center, one-quarter turn of this moving the screws downwards ¼". This insures that the work shall be held straight and firmly secured, an end stop locating it endwise. The table automatically returns to its position after the holes arc bored. The machine is made with one or two spindles when desired, or as shown in the illustration, by The Egan Co., 239 to 259 West Front Street, Cincinnati, Ohio. |
