[From 2-page testimonial ad for Jones & Lamson lathes.]
Far ahead of anything we know
That's a pretty strong statement coming from a concern that has had a wide experience with machines and machining methods.
It was made by Mantle & Co., New York City, when asked their opinion of Hartness Flat Turret Lathes.
There are five Hartness Flat Turret Lathes — two 3x36 in. and three 2x24 in. — in the Mantle plant that have been giving "ace-high" production performance for the past five years. When the photos shown on the opposite page were taken the Hartness was machining a part for a 6-head Automatic flaring machine for the G.E. Lamp Works.
This part is drilled, rough and finish turned, faced, bored and reamed. Limits are exceedingly close on operations.
The original Hartness Flat Turret Lathe came as a pioneer in quantity manufacture This sturdy pioneer ideal has not been lost the subsequent developments and improvements.
Every detail of design is right — drive, feed, stop mechanism, flat turret, simple tools, structural design. They are the only Turret Lathes that can boast of a cross sliding head. |
