Image Description:
Three simple tool-boxes, used on the Warner & Swasey screw machines already described, are illustrated in fig. 77. In all three examples the steel boxes are pro vided with shanks, which are inserted and clamped in the holes of the turret, and the outer end of the box is further guided on the work itself between the V back rest, shown in each of the examples, and the cutting tool. The back rests are adjustable within V slides and are clamped by means of square-headed screws. In the case of
the roughing box, the cutting tool can be set and clamped in its holder, which is pivoted, and is capable of being adjusted, forwards or backwards, by means of the two set screws indicated in the illustration.

The finishing box at the left of the illustration is provided with two cutting tools held in separate holders, which can be independently adjusted; and, in addition, the cutting tools can be adjusted in and out by means of set screws.

In the pointing or rounding tool, shown at the right of the illustration, the cutting tool is set at the requisite angle, and is clamped in position by a simple screw; and, for centring purposes, a removable drill is inserted in line with the centre. It will be seen from the illustrations that the shanks of the two turning tool - boxes are made hollow to accommodate the turned portion of long work.
