For chasing right and left-handed and straight and taper threads the attachment shown in position in fig. 76 is provided. At the rear of the bed is situated the leader, which is suitably geared to the head and drives the follower, upon which the threading tool is mounted. When the leader is driven in one direction right-handed threads are cut, and left-handed threads when it is driven in the opposite direction. The taper attachment, shown at the front, is adjustable and graduated, and the follower arm is so arranged that it does not withdraw from the leader while cutting taper screws. Threads of various pitches are obtained by the use of the appropriate leaders and followers; but, as already stated, both right- and left-handed and straight and taper screws of the same pitch can be cut with one pair. |
