Shingle machine
|
Alexander Dunbar |
NB, Canada |
An ad in the 1909-01-02 Canada Lumberman and Woodworker from the New Brunswick Foundry & Machine Shop, operated by McFarlane, Thompson & Anderson: "sole manufacturers of the celebrated patented Dunbar Shingle Machine, universally admitted to be the best shingle machine made". "My invention relates to improvements in shingle sawing machines, in which the travel of the carriage and the operating of the setting up devices, are effected by means of a system of gearing, friction pulleys, and cone belted pulleys; and in which a jointer or edging-mechanism is combined with the sawing machine by which the shingles are divided from the bolt..." Strangely, the 1913-04-01 issue of the same journal had two ads of note: Maritime Foundry & Machine Works, Ltd. of Chatham, NB, for the "Dunbar" shingle mill, and the Dunbar shingle machine "Manufactured Solely by The Smith Foundry Co., Ltd." of Fredericton. The illustrations show machines that are similar but not identical. |
