The Automatic Machine Co. manufactured gas engines ca. 1912 and metalworking machinery ca. 1921-1941, including the Coulter shaping planer. The name was Automatic Machinery Manufacturing Co. in 1941; in 1942 we see the name James Coulter Machine Co.
by 1920 James Coulter was a machine designer for Automatic Machine Co., and a number of their machines, including engine lathes, planers, and multi-spindle drilling machines, bore the "Coulter" name alongside the company name.
