Founded as Chandler, Wood & Co. in 1866 by George Chandler, Sidney W. Wood & S. H. Wood. The firm changed names to S. W. Wood & Co. in 1867 when Mr. Chandler retired and in 1886 to S. W. Wood & Son.
In 1914, S. W. Wood Engine Co., Inc., was incorporated; portable & steam traction engines, machinery, etc.; $45,000; by H. I. Wood, R. G. Wood, J. E. McGinnis.
