The Sioux City Foundry & Machine Works was founded before 1875 and operated by the J. P. Dennis Co. They incorporated in 1889 as the Sioux City Engine Works and reorganized in 1894 as the Sioux City Engine & Iron Works when the line of Giddings Steam Engines was sold to Brownell & Co. The Sioux Corliss Engine line was sold in 1898 to the Murray Iron Works Co. and in 1899 the rest of the company was sold to W. M. Thompson Co.
