This maker was a predecessor to the long-lived Buss Machine Works, Inc..
Having worked for woodworking machinery maker J. A. Fay & Co., Charles Buss left in 1848 to open his own machine shop in Marlboro, NH. It appears that he started manufacturing machinery under his own name in 1862. In 1867 he was joined by his eldest son, George F. Buss, and the name became Charles Buss & Son. By 1876 the name had changed to Buss Machine Works.
