Key to Links for Patent Information

USPTO = U.S. Patent Office . Images of the actual patent can be viewed on the U.S. Patent Office web site but a special TIFF viewer must be installed with your browser in order properly work. More information on how to configure your computer to view these patents can be found at TIFF image Viewers for Patent Images.
DATAMP = Directory of American Tool And Machinery Patents . A sister site to VintageMachinery.org with information on patents related to machinery and tools. A much easier user interface than the USPTO's for finding information on machinery patents.

Patent Number Date Title Name City Description
287,584 Mar. 05, 1929 Pulverizer Joseph Adelard Bégin QC, Canada The Toronto Public Library has a listing for a catalog from St. Anselme Foundry for "The famous 'Begin grinder'", dated 1929. In a search from 1900 to 1930 this is the only grinder patent to someone named Begin.
We found a for-sale listing of a 24-page catalog from St. Anselme Foundry Limited that features only this grinder. The front cover lists this patent number, "Also Patented in U.S.A.", though we have found no such US patent.
From 1931 "House of Commons Debates, Official Report, Volume 3", page 2659: "And now the St. Anselme foundry is flourishing under the able management of Mr. J. A. Begin, who has invented a grinder known as the Begin grinder, which..." This confirms that the "Adelard Bégin" listed as the inventor on this patent is actually Joseph Adelard Bégin.
370,730 Dec. 21, 1937 Heating apparatus Joseph Adelard Bégin QC, Canada This boiler seems to be primarily intended for use in heating systems for commercial buildings or residences.
