Hypneumat, Inc. was established in about 1943 by Earl Putrow to sell a high-speed automatic drilling and tapping unit that he had developed. Since then the basic design has remained the same but numerous improvements have been made to improve accuracy and ruggedness, and many variants of the original product have been developed to fit specific applications.

In 2007 Hypnewmat acquired the Commander and SNOW product lines from Reynolds Machine & Tool Corp. (RMT); RMT had owned the Commander line of multi-drilling units originally developed by Commander Mfg. Co. and the SNOW drilling and tapping machines originally developed by SNOW Mfg. Co.
