In 1910 Loveland & Monahan—a company named after Joseph E. Monahan and (unknown) Loveland—was manufacturing the "Economic Woodworker", a 1500 lb tablesaw-based combination machine with jointer, shaper, borer, mortiser and router. The endeavor was short-lived and so far as we can tell, this combination machine disappeared from the market at the same time.

Information Sources

  • May 1907 Bulletin of Armour Institute of Technology page 159, "Register of Graduates" lists "Monahan Joseph Edward—II '08 / 4726 Kenwood Ave., Chicago, Ill. / Loveland & Monahan, 527 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago, Ill."
  • 1911 Certified List of Illinois Corporations page 238, lists "Loveland & Monahan Co. / (capital stock) $5,000 / (principal office) 527 W. Van Buren st., Chicago / (president/manager) Joseph E. Monahan, 4726 Kenwood av. / (secretary) William P. Brennan, 1504 Greenleaf av." The 1910 edition indicates that the business was registered on 1910-09-08.
  • We were unable to identify "Loveland" despite searches on "Loveland & Monahan", on Loveland in relation to Chicago or to woodworking machinery, or among patents related to Loveland plus Chicago or woodworking machinery.
