Originally operating as T. C. Massey for its founder, Massey Vise Co. was smaller but its vises were sold alongside its larger competitors by leading railroad and mill supply houses. The company appeared in advertisements and trade directories through 1921, so it appears to have been a casualty of the deflationary recession of that period. We have seen an undated catalog listing for Morgan vises, formerly known as "Massy."

Trade Names
  • Lightning, Lightning Grip (drill press, planer, milling machine, machinist, patternmaker-woodworking)
  • Clincher (patternmaker-woodworking, machinist)
  • Perfect (machinist, pipe)

Information Sources

  • Archived article by Todd Werts (ToolArchives.com) Massey Vise Co.
  • Wellman Products Co. Condensed Catalogue A-10, undated, pg. 40.
  • Ads from T. C. Massey featured "Massey's E. & K. Patent Vises". This is in reference to the vise patented in Great Britain by Wilson Riley. The British rights to Riley’s invention were purchased by Entwisle & Kenyon, who marketed it as the "Lightning Grip vice". Massey acquired the U. S. rights and seems to have had considerable success with it.
