Driving mechanism for drills
|
Foster Milliken |
New York, NY |
A bicycle-powered drilling machine, with a hefty flexible shaft transmitting power to the drill head; not shown in the patent drawing, the drill head was clamped to a piece of structural steel and a hand-wheel pushed the drill bit forward. The inventor was partner in Milliken Brothers, a New York City construction and structural steel firm. This invention was manufactured and sold by Manning, Maxwell & Moore as their "Milliken Bicycle Drill". See also design patents 26,287 and 26,288. |

Design for a frame for drilling-machines
|
Foster Milliken |
New York, NY |
The inventor was co-owner of Milliken Brothers, a construction company and manufacturer of components for steel-frame buildings. This drilling machine was intended to be used in drilling rivet-holes in structural steel. It was sold by Manning, Maxwell & Moore as the Milliken Bicycle Drill. An 1897 article on this product clearly shows that the example matches this patent's design; patent 26,287 shows what was likely an earlier version that was subsequently modified to reduce weight and improve stiffness. |
