This jointer was given mine by a Schoolmate form Boston. He had moved it with him to Newport, RI, and had no place to keep it. He had bought it from a clock restorer North of Boston, over 10 years ago. We started to restore it then, in Boston, and it was put to the side -- in pieces. Fortunately all that has been misplaced are the hand knobs used to secure the fence assembly to the table. I got it in milkcrates and pieces. I am starting reassembly-- I am waiting on a 14" head from Grizzly that looks like it will fit. They sold me the head for about $300. I was happy about that!
The best thing about this machine, for me, is the door on the front. It makes the thing look like a wood stove. Inside the cavity there are cast-in rests allowing for creation of a bottom, with a chunk of plywood. I will use it to store tools and such for the machine.
12-2004- I have the machine up and running. It looks and works great. I installed the Grizzly 14" head, 3 knife. It is spun by a 2 HP 220V 1Ph motor running a dual V-belt setup. I apoligize for the toggle switch-- haven't gotten around to a magnetic starter. I made the adapter blocks, the hand knobs for the fence, and about 8 of the 1/2-12 bolts that hold things together.
