This drag saw maker was established in about 1925 by A. Kellogg DeWitt, who had worked at Vaughan Motor Works. The Wolf saws were very similar to those made by Vaughan, and are easily confused. The Wolf saws were sold under the "Timber Wolf" name and also under the "Ward Sawyer" name through Montgomery Ward & Co. department stores and catalogs.

Information Sources

  • Thanks to correspondent Otto Ray for bringing this maker to our attention.
  • A web page from Branch 15 of the Early Day Gas Engine & Tractor Association indicates that they are located in the former factory of the Wolf Iron Works. Apparently the building itself is actually a replica but they do have the original machinery and moulds from Wolf Iron Works.
The shop was started as a garage operation by A. Kellog DeWitt. DeWitt learned about fabricating drag saws while working at Vaughn, an established Oregon manufacturer of that period. A small operation for 30 years Wolf Iron Works made and sold drag saws under the "Timber Wolf" name. They were also sold by Montgomery Ward as the "Ward Sawyer".
