I held on to this from my father's estate sale out of morbid curiosity, I have searched for years to place it but have had no luck. It is powered by a circa 1915 Sears and Ro. B61614 motor which in themselves are impossible to find anymore. I have only seen one in the last 4 years and that was on WorthPoint through an auction that sold for $150 in 2010. So that is what I am pricing the whole thing for.
I have a curator contact at the Henry Ford museum. He said back then Sears had a lot of "one off" products. Basically early "Heathkit" for woodworkers who couldn't afford better. He said he has never seen anything like it before. To be fair, without a basis for comparison it comes down to what it is worth to you as a uniquely obscure collectors item. Oh, it does work, it needs a new belt and plug. The last time I played with was when I was a teenager and I am 54 now...but I am sure it still works. I was the idiot who ran over and crushed the plug. It actually has assorted bits.
My grandfather once told me that he remembers a shaper kit that looked like that in a sears catalog in a hardware store before world war 1. Which is why I held on to it. |
