Bentel and Margedant wood lathe, built in Hamilton, Ohio in the late 1800's. The lathe features massive cast iron headstock and tailstock, heavy laminated wood ways and legs, 5'-6" between centers, 10' overall lenght. Included are 3 banjos, 3 double post tool rests- 30", 42", 48", 2 single post tool rests- 12", 18", 1 right angle tool rest-5"x 11", 1 tool rest I don't recognize and 1 7 1/2" faceplate. The exterior threads on the headstock are 1 1/2" x 6 with #2 Morse taper inside. The tailstock runs silky smooth on 1 1/2" x 4 Acme threads (no burrs or hangups), #2 Morse taper inside with 5 1/4" throw. The headstock was cleanly modified to run off of an electric motor and jackshaft assembly which is also included (1 hp, 1 ph Century motor). The original, belt driven wood and steel step pulley is included and can be returned to the headstock with no problem. A 5'-6" modern heavy oak extension will bolt on, giving you 11' between centers. My father bought this lathe from an old lumberyard in the 1970's and used it off and on for custom long posts and large diameter turnings. The lathe is located in south central Ohio. Will load for buyer. Would fit in full size pu with tailgate down. |
