We have a report of a bandsaw with cast iron frame and a label on it, "West End Engineering". We found only a little information on West End Engineering Co.: the owners were D. A. Gosling and R. R. McKinnon, they were located at 39 Cannon Street East and then at 56 Alanson Street, and the business was active between at least 1947 and 1951.

Information Sources

  • Photos of bandsaw of post-WWI era, about 14" disc wheels, heavy (about 3/8") sheet-steel frame, squared-off sheet-metal wheel covers, ball-bearing blade guides. A water-slide that reads, "Machinery Manufacturers / West Engine Engineering Hamilton, Ont.". A separate dealer decal says, "Macdonald Hardware and Sporting Goods / North Battleford, Sask." The two decals strongly suggest that West End Engineering was the manufacturer, and this saw was at least intended to be manufactured in volume.
