Machine Description: 16" Radial Arm Drill Press

Manufacture Date: 1973
Notes: Source=Owner's submission. Owner's notes: I bought this from a turning club member that had passed away. He may have bought it new but he had a bunch of vintage tools inherited from his father. The drill press was in excellent shape. I disassembled the whole machine and cleaned it with Simple Green and polished up all the gibs and columns and the spindle. The machine was in excellent shape and looks brand new. The only non original part was a Jan 46 Crafts 1/2 HP motor. I tool the motor apart and the old fabric insulation was quite frayed so I ordered a Dayton 1/2 HP Type 48 motor and it fit right on. The belt was too long and there is very little adjustment so I need to take it to the auto parts store and replace it with 1" shorter belt. The Rockwell operators manual says it is a 59" vee belt. So the only original parts not on the machine will be the belt and motor. The replacement motor that the previous owner put on was a fire hazard so I had to replace it or burn my shop down. After I get it running I will spin the spindle and get the chuck polished up. The table and base were pretty much rust free except for a little. I cleaned it up with 3M finishing pads on a random orbit sander. I did not use sand paper because I did not want to loose the original mill marks on the surfaces. When I got it it had an auxiliary table that was likely the factory auxiliary table that was particle board and formica. I will replace that when it is running. Cant wait to get it to use chair making.
